Themes
What a theme controls, how to browse and switch themes, and how project and workspace defaults interact.
A theme is the design system a video is made in. It sets the palette, the type and the surfaces that every generated scene uses, so a project looks like one piece instead of a set of unrelated scenes.
What a theme controls
- Palette. The colours scenes draw from, assigned to roles such as background, text and accent. Some themes are dark and some are light.
- Type. The fonts for headings, body text and other text roles. Theme names are set in their own heading font in the picker.
- Surfaces. How cards, boxes and panels look.
- Background. The atmosphere behind a scene.
- Captions. Captions can match the theme's colours and fonts. See Captions.
A theme changes how scenes are drawn. It does not change your script, your voice or your timing.
Browse themes
- Open Explore from the dashboard.
- Open the Design styles tab. Each card is a theme, marked Dark or Light.
- Search by name, and hover a card to see it in motion.
- Click a card. It takes you to the home composer with that theme already chosen for your next video.
You can also see the themes inside the project wizard and in the project settings. The Director can show them too: ask it to browse themes and it lists each one with its palette, type and a description.
Choose a theme for a new video
In the project wizard, the Identity step has a Theme section. Choose one of:
- Default. Inherit the workspace theme, or the template's own look.
- Open. A neutral base. Typecut styles it to suit your topic.
- A named theme. The card shows a preview of the theme in use.
The theme is optional. It overrides the look of the template you picked.
Switch the theme on a project
- Open Project settings… from the editor menu.
- Go to the Look tab.
- Pick a theme in the Theme list. Workspace default clears the project's own choice.
- Click Preview under the list to open a preview of the theme. Hover it to play it.
You can also ask the Director to switch to a different theme.
A new theme applies to every scene you generate or regenerate from now on. Scenes already on the canvas keep their theme until they are regenerated.
The Look tab also has an Illustration style box. Use it for free-text direction on generated imagery, such as "Flat vector, muted pastel palette, thick outlines". Leave it empty to let the theme decide.
Set a workspace default
Open your workspace settings and go to Theme. Under Default Theme, pick a theme and save. New projects in that workspace start with it. Choose None to clear the default.
A project can override the workspace default. The project's own theme wins when it has one. Otherwise the workspace default applies.
Change a single scene
A scene can carry its own theme. In the classic editor's canvas, the Theme tool lists every theme. Picking one is a soft change: it fills in what the scene does not already set, and it keeps any styling or background you set yourself. Two follow-up actions let the theme take over:
- Use theme background removes the scene's own background so the theme's shows.
- Restyle elements to theme strips the styling set on elements so the theme's takes over. You can undo it.
To open the classic editor, choose Back to the current editor from the menu.
