Getting started

Go from sign-up to a rendered, shared video, one step at a time.

This walkthrough takes you from a new account to a finished MP4 and a share link. It uses the web app at app.typecut.ai.

Open the sign-up page and use one of the methods it shows. If sign-up is invite-only when you visit, the page shows a request-access form instead. Enter your email and wait for your invite.

A new account starts with one workspace, so you can create a video straight away. A workspace holds the defaults new videos inherit. See Concepts.

Write a brief or paste a script

On the home page, the composer asks What do you want to make today?

Before you write, set the options in the row above the text box:

  • Workspace. Where the project is filed. If you have more than one, pick it here.
  • Aspect ratio. The frame shape of the video.
  • Duration. A slider with ranges such as 1-2 min, 3-5 min and 20-30 min. Your plan caps the longest length.
  • Quality. Appears only when quality tiers are available to you.

Then choose how to give Typecut your content:

  • Write a brief. Describe the video in the text box. Typecut writes the script.
  • Write or paste a script. Use the + menu at the bottom left, then choose Write or paste a script. Pick Keep my words to use your text as written, or Let AI adapt to let Typecut rewrite it.
  • Upload a script file. The + menu accepts .md, .txt, .fountain and .srt files.
  • Upload media. Use Upload media in the same menu to attach your own images, video or audio.

If you paste links into a brief, Typecut turns them into source chips that ground the video in that material.

The Create button names what is missing, such as Add a description. Once the brief is ready, it shows an estimated cost in credits.

Set up voice, music and look

Create opens the project wizard. It has three steps: Identity, Media and Review. Click a step name to jump back to it. You can jump forward only when the steps before it are complete.

Identity

  • Voice. The narrator. Voices are listed for your workspace's language. A voice set as the workspace default is preselected.
  • Music. Choose Choose a track, Generate a bed or No music. A generated bed spends credits.
  • Audio levels. Optional mix levels for voice, music and sound effects. The defaults suit most videos.
  • Theme. The look. Default inherits the workspace theme. Open gives a neutral base that Typecut styles to your topic.

Media

  • Pick the kinds of visuals to use: AI Images, AI Video, Stock Videos, Motion Graphics and Your Own Media. Which ones appear depends on the project template.
  • Set the pace of scene changes and which Transitions Typecut may use.
  • Add Sources and Import Media if you did not already.
  • Turn on captions and choose a Caption Style.
  • Optionally add a logo and set its position, size and opacity.

Review the cost and start

Review lists your choices, with an Edit button on each section. It also shows an Estimated cost broken down by media scenes, motion-graphics scenes, production base, voice narration and thumbnail.

The Auto-generate everything switch decides what happens next:

  • Off. The button reads Plan first. Nothing is generated and no credits are spent. Typecut plans the script, narration blocks and scenes, and opens the project with the Director panel. You review the plan and get a quote there before anything is generated.
  • On. The button reads Generate Video. Typecut generates voiceover, scenes and motion design right after planning, and deducts the credits shown. It returns you to the home page and notifies you when the video is ready.

If you do not have enough credits, a dialog shows the exact shortfall.

For how costs are calculated, see Credits and pricing.

Adjust the project

Open the project from your home page. The editor shows your chapters, script and scenes. Change the narration, restyle a scene, or ask the Director to make changes for you.

Export the video

Select Export in the editor header, then Export video. Typecut renders the whole project to an MP4 on its servers. You can close the dialog and keep editing while it runs. When it finishes, Download Latest appears under the Export button.

The dialog has four tabs: Video, Timeline, Text and Thumbnail. The dialog states that rendering is included in your plan and uses no credits.

Free plan videos carry a Typecut watermark and are capped at a lower export quality. A paid plan removes the watermark and raises the quality. The home composer shows this before you spend credits.

Share it

Select the share icon in the editor header (Share this project) and turn on Share link. Anyone with the link can watch. Use Copy link to copy it.

  • Turn the switch off to pause the link. Turning it on again restores the same URL.
  • Reset link creates a new URL and permanently disables the old one.
  • Manage all your links under Settings, Shared links.

You can create the first link only after the project has finished generating.

Do it from code

The same flow is available through the API and the MCP server.
