Credits and pricing
What spends credits, how to see the cost before you commit, and how plans work.
Credits are the one meter in Typecut. Generating things spends them. Rendering and sharing do not.
What a credit is worth
At list price, 1 credit is $0.01. Your plan's actual rate per credit can differ slightly. Your plan and balance are shown in Settings, Subscription, and your usage in Settings, Usage.
What spends credits
Typecut prices each kind of work separately. When you plan a project, the estimate is built from these parts:
| Part | Credits |
|---|---|
| AI image scene | 8 each |
| AI video scene | 70 each |
| Motion-graphics scene | 20 each |
| Stock image or stock footage scene | 3 each |
| Scene using your own uploaded media | 0 |
| Production base (planning, scene work) | 20 per started minute of target length |
| Voice narration | allowance of 1 per started 30 seconds of target length |
| Thumbnail | 1 when a thumbnail reference is set |
These are the numbers the estimator uses. Treat them as a planning guide. The final charge depends on the scenes actually generated.
Other things that spend credits include a generated music bed and individual generations you run later, such as regenerating an image. Quality tiers, where available, scale the scene cost. The full list, including every provider-specific price, is the price book: see Quote and plan from code.
Exporting a video does not spend credits. The export dialog says rendering is included in your plan.
See the cost before you spend
You can see a number before anything is charged at each stage:
- Home composer. Once your brief is ready, Create shows an estimate in credits.
- Wizard, Review step. Estimated cost breaks the total down by media scenes, motion-graphics scenes, production base, voice narration and thumbnail.
- Plan first. Turn off Auto-generate everything on the Review step. Typecut plans the script and scenes for free and opens the Director. You get a quote there before anything is generated.
- Not enough credits. If your balance is short, a dialog shows the exact shortfall instead of starting the job.
Quote and plan from code
The API and MCP server expose the same pricing:
- Price book. Lists every price in credits and USD at list, with a version number.
- Quotes. Price a list of operations before you run them. A quote gives an expected and a maximum cost, and moves no credits.
- Project estimate. Prices a whole project from its settings.
- Holds. Reserve a quote's maximum so parallel work cannot spend it.
- Budgets. Give an agent its own key with a hard credit cap.
Plans
Typecut has a Free plan and four paid plans (Starter, Creator, Pro, Scale). Current prices are on the pricing page and under Settings, Subscription; they are not repeated here so they cannot go stale.
Each paid plan includes a monthly credit amount. Plans also set limits such as the longest project, the highest export quality and the number of workspaces. Programmatic API keys need Creator or higher. The MCP connector works on every plan.
The Free plan adds a Typecut watermark to videos and caps export quality. See Settings, Subscription for what your plan includes today. Those values can change, so the app is the source of truth.
Get more credits
On Settings, Subscription you can:
- upgrade or change plan,
- buy a one-off credit pack (Boost, Plus or Mega),
- add extra monthly credits to your plan.
Next: organize your work in Workspaces and teams.
